It is very important for soldiers to be able to navigate the terrain effectively. In such cases, a compass comes in handy, helping them orient themselves in space. A compass works based on the interaction between its built-in permanent magnets and the Earth’s magnetic field. Its needle always points north and south, no matter the circumstances.

The M-Tac compass features a folding aluminum frame (with a cover that includes a sight and a base on which the capsule containing the scale and needle rotates). The frame is used to set the azimuth. To take an azimuth, point the long side of the compass at a landmark, then rotate the capsule with the scale so that the north end of the needle aligns with north on the scale. Read the numerical value of the azimuth from the scale mark on the end of the frame facing the landmark. This compass model is equipped with a peephole to allow for a more precise reading of the azimuth. The scale marked on the compass frame also helps with precise calculations.
