Cold Steel Luzon Large Knife The Cold Steel Luzon knife was designed by Lynn Thompson and Mike Wallace, inspired by their beloved Philippine balisongs. The line includes two models: Medium and Large. The knife’s blade is made of 8Cr13MoV steel with a Rockwell hardness of 57–58, which, given the 4- and 6-inch lengths of the Medium and Large models, respectively, is more than enough to cut through—and perhaps even chop—just about anything. The blade is equipped with two flippers and a thumb stud, providing two additional opening options in addition to the blade’s inertia-assisted deployment. The deployment is smooth thanks to the heavy blade and bearings on the pivot. The manufacturer calls the lock a “Leaf-Spring,” but in reality, it’s a standard Liner Lock with one small difference. There is a button on the handle that applies additional pressure to the locking plate, preventing the blade from popping out and the knife from closing accidentally when strong pressure is applied to the lock. This design is intended to provide greater safety. The handle is made of glass-fiber-reinforced nylon (GFN) and features a bamboo-style finish. It includes a lanyard hole. The clip deserves special mention. On this model, it is unusually wide and made of plastic. However, as tests show, the plastic is very durable, and this attachment design is convenient and won’t damage clothing. Considering all of the knife’s features, the Cold Steel Luzon is a versatile tool that will come in handy in any situation.
